Better sex positions - creative lovemaking

Why limit the extent of your movement in intercourse? Try sex positions which allow the most scope for experiments with movement in sex – and so can make for the most vibrant lovemaking experience.

For most people, sexual release is impossible without some form of movement. A few women can have an orgasm just by thinking about something sexy, but most people need genital stimulation to reach climax.

Men masturbate by circling the penis with their fingers and moving the skin up and down rhythmically until they reach orgasm.

A woman, too, needs to move the foreskin of her clitoris on its head (just as a man does with his penis); however this can be done directly or indirectly.

Direct and indirect contact having sex

A finger can be made to move slowly or quickly, lightly or firmly, and with very different stroke lengths. Altering any of these can be the difference between a good or bad orgasm. Often, women say that partner-induced orgasms are more satisfying than those by masturbation.

A man’s tongue can stimulate both clitoris and vagina. And its movement over the vulval area can be very sensual – and difficult to match.

Vibrators produce a fine vibration that powerfully stimulates the clitoris and vulval area. This movement is unique to the vibrator.

During sexual intercourse the clitoris is stimulated indirectly as the penis is thrust in and out of the vagina. This pulls on the inner lips which are attached to the hood of the clitoris. Physical in-and-out movement therefore stimulates the head of the clitoris even though the penis is not actually touching it.

This does not always happen, though, and women often need direct stimulation of the clitoral area.

Movement during intercourse

Sex positions which allow for fuller movement are good for women who cannot reach orgasm without direct stimulation of the clitoris. Here, the man enters his partner at right angles, leaving him free to use his hands to stimulate her.

According to the gentry of Victorian times, ‘ladies do not move’. A lady was supposed to be sexless, and would not be so crude as to move her body – just in case she appeared to be enjoying herself.

Unfortunately, this harmful concept still exists. Some women, even now, lie beneath their partner with their legs open and remain motionless throughout intercourse. To take a more active role would be ‘tarty’. Such women assume that women are simply passive receptacles of men’s desires.

At the opposite end of the scale are men who have trouble controlling ejaculation. They find highly active women difficult to cope with, because movement makes them come too soon. But an older man, or one with slower ejaculation, will certainly welcome active movements.

A woman, on the other hand, can move in any position that leaves her free to do so. Rear-entry positions are very good for this.

Men having sex – and movement

Men need to experience penile movement during intercourse, or they will not be able to reach orgasm. They enjoy thrusting movements of various speeds and depths, but tend to thrust deeply as they reach orgasm. For a man to obtain the most pleasure during sexual intercourse, he usually tries to produce movements which are close to those he uses during masturbation. This will differ from man to man. For instance, some like long, slow movement, whereas others like short, jerky movement.

Women having sex – and movement

Woman-on-top sex positions give her full control to direct the man’s penis to stimulate her G-spot.

Women have a wider range of movements. Thrusting is popular, but a woman on top can thrust herself on to the penis (varying depth of penetration to suit her or her man), or she can rotate her pelvis so the penis is swept around the top of the vagina.

A woman can also contract the vaginal opening of her deep pelvic muscles. If she contracts her muscles as the penis moves in, and release the pressure as it moves out, her man may quickly be brought to orgasm.

Some women have learned to control their pelvic muscles so that they can produce an orgasm in a motionless penis by ‘milking’ it with these muscles. This is highly stimulating for both the man and woman.

A woman who has a sensitive G spot can angle her body when she is on top, to get her man’s penis tip right on the spot, and move until climax.

Intercourse

The amount of movement each partner is capable of in lovemaking depends very much on the position adopted. Some positions allow each partner to move freely, while others limit movement, but allow for deeper penetration by the man.

Sex positions that allow full stroke movement include:

  • The woman kneels on a bed or low stool or lies over the edge of something higher (a table) and the man enters her from behind.
  • The woman lies back in a deep chair with her legs apart. The man kneels in front and penetrates her.
  • The woman lies on her back with her knees up and her feet flat on the bed. The man supports his weight on his hands and penetrates her from above.
  • In the same position, the woman can put her ankles over the man’s shoulders.
  • The woman lies on her tummy with her hips on a pillow. The man approaches her from behind and, supporting himself on his hands, penetrates her.

Sex positions that allow full penetration, but little movement, are as follows:

  • The man sits on a simple chair. The woman faces away from him (or towards him) and sits on his penis.
  • The woman lies back in a deep arm chair, raises her legs and puts her ankles on the shoulders of her partner who kneels in front to penetrate her.
  • The woman lies down flat on her back with her legs apart. The man is face down with his weight mainly on his knees and elbows.
  • The woman lies on her side facing away from the man, who lies behind her, moulding into her body contours. (This is often called the ‘spoons’ position.)

The above sex positions allow the man complete control over his orgasms.

Move it!

Sex positions where the woman can move are the following:

  • The woman sits astride her man’s penis, facing him while he is seated.
  • The man lies flat on his back and the woman sits astride him facing towards or away from him. She can rest on her knees or have her feet flat on the bed.
  • The man kneels on the floor and then leans back to take his weight on his hands behind him. The woman squats on his penis facing him.

These sex positions enable women to control movement to produce orgasms for themselves.

Sex positions in which there is little movement are the following:

  • Standing position in which the woman hangs on to the man’s neck and wraps her legs around his waist.
  • The man sits on an armless chair, legs wide apart. The woman faces away from him and sits on his penis.
  • The man lies flat on his back with his legs together. The woman kneels over his penis facing his feet.
  • The woman lies on her back, legs up, feet flat on the bed or held up by grasping behind the knees. The man is on his side at right angles to her body as he penetrates her. This is excellent for teaching a woman to have an orgasm during intercourse, as it allows the man to caress her clitoris and breasts easily.

These sex positions are good for the couple who enjoy stimulating by contracting the woman’s vaginal muscles.

Thrusting movements

As well as varying their positions for lovemaking, a couple can also vary the thrusting movements they use. Couples who both like to take an active role here can try the following routines and discover which movements are best.

Once the man has penetrated his partner, he should withdraw a little. The woman then pushes against his penis and withdraws a little. The couple should continue this alternate movement until they reach orgasm.

Or, if they prefer, the couple can move at the same time, coming together and then withdrawing a little, but with the man thrusting. A little time will be needed to perfect the rhythm.

By varying thrusting movements during lovemaking the man can greatly increase his partner’s pleasure.

For maximum penetration and friction, he can also thrust to right and left.

A similar technique is if the man partly inserts his penis into his partner’s vagina and thrusts in and out, using short strokes, before plunging his penis in up to the root.

Alternatively, the man can enter his partner fully so that their pubic hairs are touching and then thrust without actually withdrawing his penis at all.
